Below are some of my favorite tracks off of Erykah Badu's new CD "New Amerykah Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh" #Wordisbond this CD is off the hook! Badu definitely came back with a twist for us this time. She is totally on a different level elevated high above any other artist that is out there right now. I don't even think her music can fit into one genre perfectly. Anyway I hope you take the time to at least check it out. It is even worth actually buying!

The Losers - Purple Reels Review

________The Losers______

Directed by Sylvain White Written by Peter Berg (screenplay) and
James Vanderbilt (screenplay), Cinematography by
Scott Kevan, Film Editing by

Starring: Jeffrey Dean Morgan as "Clay", Zoe Saldana "Aisha",
Chris Evans as "Jensen", Idris Elba as "Roque",Columbus Short as "Pooch", and
Óscar Jaenada as "Cougar"

Members of a CIA unit are targeted for assassination and betrayed. The whole movie is about them taking revenge on the. The action packed comedy is based on a DC comic and so it's supposed to be funny right? The humor was a little off. It always went further than necessary. The cinematography was excellent. They played off of the fact that the movie was based on a comic. You'll notice that in the transitional establishing shots when moving to the next scene. The introduction of each character was interesting as well. The most intense scene was the initial meeting of Aisha ( Zoe Saldana) & Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who carry the movie for the most part. In the hotel scene their egos mesh as they go at it. The way the fight is set up is very suggestive and gives a hint of sexual connection. It was very reminiscent of the classic slow motion effect used in the movie "The Matrix." There were some really dead parts of the movie but the end really takes the cake. Slyvain White does an excellent job at directing the movie but it really does suck when the script is not as good as it could be. He has also directed films such as "Stomp the Yard" (2007), "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" (2006), "Trios 3: The Escort" (2004) etc. So he has worked with Columbus Short before. He worked with what he was given and created a masterpiece as far as the visual aspect is concerned. It was an ok movie but if you're trying to decide whether to spend your money at the theater I'd recommend waiting for it to come out on DVD. Still a great movie just not worth the money. Especially with the rise in the price of tickets these days.

Zoe Saldana takes the stage!

Born June 19, 1978 in New Jersey. You may remember her from movies like "Drumline" (2002), "Guess Who" (2005), and "Avatar" (2009) etc. Saldana is definitely taking center stage at a fast pace. She is also in "Death at a Funeral" (2010) which premiered April 16, 2010. In "The Losers" she really carries the movie as far as acting is concerned. Her performance was great and very believable. Keep your eye on Saldana she is going places! Stay tuned for her role in "Takers" (2010) and "Untitled Star Trek Sequel" (2012).

Little known facts about Saldana

To prepare her role in Star Trek (2009) she met with Nichelle Nichols who played the same character in the original series.

Admires Whoopi Goldberg and Angelina Jolie.

Did an intense nonstop six-month preparation for Avatar (2009) including martial arts, archery and horseback riding.

Likes to play strong female characters. And said in a interview with a Danish film-site that she was really looking forward to evolve her character of Uhura into a stronger, kick-ass lady in future Star Trek (2009) sequels.

Says she's a sci-fi geek who just happens to dress nice.

I bet you didn't know...

Originally the project was going to be written and directed by Peter Berg. James Vanderbilt took over scripting duties after the first draft. Tim Story was also attached to direct for a while.

"LOVeUncERtain" Written by Purple Tramble - [04.22.10]

 LOVeuncERtain
Written by Purple Tramble -  [04.22.10]
inspired by true events

I'm thinking I wouldn't mind him being the father of my babies... No
I wouldn't mind it... I wouldn't mind ...
he brings out the best in me... and I in he
at least I hope he knows I feel this way...
I learn from him in every way...
he dedicates his heart to me with his words
I feel like he's protecting me
and I don't want this feeling to go away
when he's holding me I'm thinking about forever
when he talks with me I think about his dreams
all while he's with me I'm thinking about ways to help him grow
Never been so concerned with someone's worth before
It seems his soul has taken hold of me
and how he feels I don't care if it's this way or that
all he needs to know is it's a fact
I'm in love
must be special he's developing into my being
giving me an uncompromising feeling of wholeness from within
Lord give me the strength to be willing to take the chance
Give me the courage to give into my soul
had a talk with my heart and she told me she just don't know
we have been here once before
are we willing to go there once more?
I don't know... I just don't ....know
But  my soul had a different reply...
Intrigued by the wisdom in his eyes...
I laugh because it seems he thinks that he is old
but to me that is what I like
entranced in my mind by his outlook on life
in my heart yes I'm hoping to get closer... maybe one day become his wife
reminds me of my father
intelligent, respectful and kind
yet he can stand up for his family when the time is right
he has taken many risks in his life
But now he's much more careful with the way he uses his time
Wisdom is what guides his life
His values are in order... and he's headed for destiny
my heart skips a beat when I hear about his journey
for his seems to mesh with mine
for we took the road less traveled by
and what he has learned I'd love to share with my babies
when the time is right maybe we will get the chance to share our stories
together how we overcame in this fight called life
and all of our jewels of wisdom we would continue to impart
pass the torch of wisdom ...pass the torch...
Now looking at him I can only smile
Hoping that one day he'd know... just how... I feel
Don't want to force this though... I enjoy this...
It has been something real
I can only hope one day I can get up the courage
to tell him that my love is real
"but his is uncertain"
I don't want to press this thing
please just stay for a while
there's no pressure here baby
here you can open your heart
here you can be free to smile
I will love you despite your love uncertain
I will ride with you through the nile

Kelis New Song/Music Video [Acapella]

KELIS IS BACK! NEW MUSIC VIDEO "Acapella"

This is a great video. The imagery and artistic nature kept me visually satisfied! Yes! Lady Gaga who? Why compare Kelis to Lady Gaga when Kelis was flamboyant and "Caught out there" before Gaga ever hit a lick. She's cool but she's no Kelis and I second that! The song had me thinking maybe she was referring to a man but the last shot in the video is of her dressed in African attire with a baby on her back. The song is about her baby... what a cold metaphor! I've heard a lot of songs like for instance Lauryn Hill's "Zion" where artists pay tribute to their children but this song is cool. I think the video helps it out a whole lot though. What's funny is how itunes had this music video for free... what the heck!? That was rather interesting but good for me lol! Enjoy!

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? [Purple Reels Review]

April 9th 8:00am  PST
There has been a lot of hype in regards to Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? Some said they didn't know where he was going with the story or what he was thinking. While others say this one outdid the first. Some even go as far as to say they didn't see it but when asked why they have no real concrete answers. What do the people really want to see? Will there be another one in the future...? How far will Tyler Perry go? What's next on the list for Perry as far as movies (projects) are concerned...?

April 9th 6:00pm PST

IN THE NEWS.... PURPLE REELS gives it **** STARS!

Tyler Perry did an excellent job of capturing the stories of each couple. Each vignette gave a little more insight into the problems that were revealed in the first movie "Why Did I Get Married?" It was very refreshing to move the cast to a different location. That brought some life to the story in a way. There wasn't anything unique or striking about the shots. In all actuality some parts were kind of rushed and maybe that had more to do with the script. The main clues we get from this movie is that this won't be the last we see from this story...

The beginning moved kind of slow. They could have cut some scenes out honestly. It did help to build upon the revelation of the problems unique to each couple. The movie used different metaphoric situations to try to give clues about what was really going on beneath the surface.

All Black Cast? Good or bad?

The fact that there is an all Black cast is good but not just a cast with one set personality. There are a blend of personalities as far as characters are concerned. Angela's character is in a class all by herself. Her character is exaggerated and over the top. Her character sheds a negative light on African American Women everywhere. Yet do not be fooled to believe that there aren't some African American women who in reality do share some of her traits.

There's a difference between this film and the previous film in the sense that the tone has changed dramatically. What will Perry will do next? Each character and couple has grown in their own way but they still haven't healed from their pain. As far as Angela's character... it might be comical to some but after a while her character can become rather redundant. America sees enough of that type of Black Woman. It is time to shed a different light.

JANET JACKSON moves audiences everywhere!
Janet Jackson as an actor... Wowzers! She really made the movie in her delivery. Even as she and Tyler talked about it on the Tyler Perry show and Oprah one never would have guessed that she would bring such life and passion out of such a soft spoken and reserved personality. They spoke of Michael Jackson's death on both the T. Perry show and Oprah and she seemed so reserved about it. That's why having a way to express yourself is so important. Janet was literally able to transfer her energy and grief live on the set. The fact that Michael died when they were filming was no mere coincidence. She has come a long way from little "Penny" on Goodtimes!

Overall the film possessed some strong messages both positive and negative. It all depends on what angle you're looking at it from. You as the audience decide which messages you would like to receive. That's the great thing about movies. Everyone can go into the theater and see the same movie but come out with very different opinions as to what they took from the movie because we all have our own perspective.

  Thoughts on the Ending
The ending was very unexpected. Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba's vignette is what seemed to affect people the most. The best scenes as far as artistically (shots) were when Patricia (Janet Jackson) was furious in a rage at her husband. The tension built on this one and I think that what transpired (again this is from a writer's point of view) was realistic and very surprising all at the same time. The actual last scene of the movie was once again very rushed but it is an open ending leaving the audience with a question. There will definitely be another movie to follow this one... and why not capitalize on something that is having so much success. However as the film continues to gain success the questions becomes will the film lose it's initial message and what kind of results is Perry expecting to gain in the community from this? Is it becoming less about the positive impact in the community and more about capitalizing on power and financial gain? These are just some questions to think about. Honestly the whole idea of "Why Did I Get Married" is a major issue in the African American community and it transcends the color lines as well. Marriage and more so divorce is a major issue in the world today because the sanctity has been diluted in a sense. People get divorced for silly things and don't possess that same endurance of love that people once shared back in the day. The film has the potential to make people think intensely about where they are in their relationships and something like that is priceless. It is very hard to get into people's minds once they have reached a certain age because they are pretty much set in their ways. That is why movies are so important. They are influential in ways beyond measure. A film has the power to change minds and perspectives... a power that can be detrimental in the wrong hands! A filmmaker is like a surgeon they can construct shots, scenes, music etc in such a way as to conjure up feelings one never knew they still had. In certain cultures like the African American community comedy is a source of release and (or) therapy. That is what Tyler Perry uses to get into the minds of the community and then he slides a message in there once he has gained their attention. It is a very good strategy and judging from the success of his empire he was exactly right about his theory.

What's Next for Tyler Perry?

According to  Shadow And Act [On Media Of The African Diaspora – Emphasis On Cinema] Perry is said to be in the process of Casting and shooting his upcoming adaptation of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf. Actors such as Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, and Macy Gray are already cast in the film. Shooting is said to start this summer.

Tiffany Wilson - Music Therapy [Purple Reels Review]

Caught up with Tiffany Wilson at the Sonny Bonoho release party. Her performance was phenomenal. She has a beautiful elegant airy voice. Wilson is an ARTIST, SONGWRITER Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. The harmonies are different from anything I've heard in a while... very unique. Her music sounds like a mix between jazz/neo-soul and a little bit of gospel...
Her album is entitled "Music Therapy." The title fits... takes you on a journey through the ups and downs of love... the thick of love... the hurt, the pain, the joys and the sorrows... you will find therapy ... here. This is definitely an album for the Grown and Sexy.

Elegance... Gritty... combination of lyrics.
.

Purple Reels picks off the album are the following:

"Crazy" - a song about being so deep in love... and how that person makes one feel like they can't live without them...

"you got me so in love it's crazy, I can't see me without you baby, All that I want to be is your lady, you got me so in love it's crazy...."

"Easier Said"- this song is about people in relationships... that he said/she said gossip that goes around and how it's easier said than done

"there have been some times even you too have let me down but guess who's still coming around..."

Sonny Bonoho "The Best Kept Secret in the Pacific Northwest" **** [Purple Reels Review of New Album PhonePhreak]

Sonny Bonoho is the best kept secret in the Pacific Northwest! His original twist on Hip Hop is unique in the sense that it romances the senses!  ....he tells stories to the people to try to encourage them to keep their heads up! You mix that with a funky yet smooth groove and lace it with lyrics to kill and you're bound to have the whole world waiting for another bionic thrill!
~ Purple Reels ~

If you don't know of Sonny Bonoho he is the best kept secret in the Pacific Northwest (Tacoma/Seattle). He has opened shows for artists such as Outlaw, 2 Live Crew, Digital Underground, Dylan, Bohagon, Playboy Tre, Devin the Dude, Twista, Kurupt, Flavor Flav, Cool Nutz, Yukmouth, E-40, RBL, Jedi Mind Trick, Sean Price, Dj Quik, AMG, Prodigy, Cassie, Sean Kingston, Richboy, Silk, Slick Rick, De La Soul, YZ, Andre Nikatina, & more.

Bonoho is a rapper.producer.promoter and has made a name for himself because of his originality and unique personality. When asked about how he feels about hip hop he stated  “Everything about me is unorthodox and that’s how I feel about HipHop”.

On music “Sonny Bonoho’s music is to improve quality of life. It’s the struggle to solve problems within yourself,” he explains.

“In my community, many people know me as the person who always ties everybody together. While doing all that, I still focus on Sonny Bonoho, the artist”.

In 2005, Sonny Bonoho starting working with Ga Durt Artist’s Playboy Tre & Bohagon of Lil Jon’s record label BME. Then came the video “Get Down” Directed by Billy Summers. Bonoho then started a new group with Playboy Tre called “The Bona Brothers”. This was a very pivotal moment for Bonoho. You'll be surprised to know that he has played over 100 concerts in the past year and toured with Bohagon & Playboy Tre in Germany.

“It’s a blessing to make good music with my brothers Bohagon & Playboy Tre,” explains Sonny Bonoho.

His new sound is what keeps me listening... I haven't heard anything like this in a while. His original twist on Hip Hop is unique in the sense that it romances the senses. I ran into Sonny Bonoho at Cool 19 this past weekend but I remember when he came to perform at Rainier Beach High School in the Southend of Seattle. I didn't know much about him then. Actually I knew nothing of him then but I'm happy to be reintroduced to his music. It comes at a time where motivation is truly needed. There are a lot of people out there who need to hear something positive and that is what I am about promoting a POSITIVE MESSAGE. This new album "Phonephreak" I think will definitely surprise people because of the message. There's a very cool intro and original content. Actually I was surprised at how crazy this album was. The album is set to release April 10th which is also the same day as the Album Release Party to take place at Nectar Lounge [412 N 36th St] in Seattle, WA. I think that Sonny Bonoho is the best kept secret in the Pacific Northwest (Tacoma/Seattle).

So Sonny Bonoho reminds me of Mos Def in a way... let me explain... Mos Def doesn't hold his tongue and he tells stories to the people to try to encourage them to keep their head up! You mix that with a funky yet smooth groove and lace it with lyrics to kill and you're bound to have the whole world waiting for another bionic thrill!

PHONEPHREAK ALBUM

I believe there is something for everyone on this album...

"In The Jar" is a coming out song where Bonoho talks about his past and how he made it to the top ... with God on his side... it is a true testament of his gratitude  "heavenly father save our tears in the jar I can't wait to meet you see who you are... when we get back home we won't never ever be alone... be alone!" the music for this song really fits perfectly ... and the lyrics wrapped around the beat

"Good Bye" a dedication to giving up "MaryJane" (a perfect song for anti-drug commercial) ... growing up... he's whole heartedly showing his fans how he is changing for the better... giving up what was holding him back in a sense.

"Touch You"

a ride or die song very motivating for anyone who is trying to achieve their dreams and rise to the top... I think that this song has multiple meanings though... There are always those pivotal songs on an album that really explain the core of where the artist is trying to take you. This is that type of song so take time to listen...

"I've been crying, I've been dying ... I've been trying it's God's timing... now I'm living better now..."

"I want to motivate the pros and cons that's why I discover myself to make another person strong"

Another one of my favorites on the album is

"Zig Zag"
I definitely think this is a smash hit and could attract a lot of attention because of it's unique sound. The beat is FUNKY and I can dig that! If you're interested in seeing Sonny Bonoho live be sure to check him out this Saturday down at the Nectar lounge. It is sure to be a a packed house! You are in for a treat Sonny Bonoho knows how to rock the crowd! Check out the video below for your visual pleasure!
