Purple Reels Gives Back [01.24.10]

This time last year while in DC I put together a screening/birthday bash for my documentary on the 2008 election of Barack Obama. It was a surreal feeling to share my work with others. I invited local artists to come out and showcase their talent. The main theme was spoken word.

It was the first ever screening of my documentary. It was timely and I really feel like the message was heard. I even got up and sang a song I wrote a couple of years back. It was a pretty good turn out. This year on my birthday I decided to give back by using my gift. In the heart of Seattle there are those who care dearly for the people who have been affected by the devastating effects of the earthquake that hit Haiti. It is something that has touched us all. All who are human have something inside of them that is transformed when death of this multitude happens. However when brothers and sisters unite with one common goal to heal and uplift another there is an energy so great!

Last night was a beautiful moment in time to stop and think about others less fortunate than ourselves. We all used our gifts to raise money for Haiti.

One of the flyest bands in Seattle, Washington known as "Goody Bagg" graced the house with sultry melodies accompanied by local artists such as Felicia Loud, Michael Williams, Luke Rain, Joy Jones, Frankie Brown, Arod Jones, Adrian Sims, Prez Central Intelligence, Eclipse, Speak Easy, Rob Harris, and Sammy Drain. Seattle is the best kept secret when it comes to live music. There is so much talent in this city it is crazy. Often times when people think about stars and who's hot they think about cities like Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, and DC. I'm just here to let the world know that Seattle is where it's at when it comes to live entertainment. Purple Reels "Let your Light Shine!" I mean the fact is that back in the day Ray Charles and even Quincy Jones graced the streets of Seattle. They were bad too! They may have moved on to other places but I'm sure they stayed for a while and built a name for themselves.

Goody Bagg has been around for a while now. Seattlites are used to seeing them perform at venues such as "The Paragon" located in the hills of Queen Anne, however they're internationally known. Every Wednesday night at 88 Keys (315 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA) "Goody Bagg" gives local artists a chance to showcase their talent live on stage accompanied by the band. Their funky grooves have attracted the hottest talent and given people a reason to come out and relieve the stress of their week. They leave the audience wondering what they'll pull out of their Goody Bagg next week. The essence of an artist is in their talent but when you mix it with a live band something magical happens.

The Haiti fundraiser was a success. The sounds of music drew people from all over town. The venue was beautifully decorated, lights low and ears open ready to receive. I was very glad that I was able to help support the cause. I've often heard the term it is better to give than to receive. You never really understand these things until you experience it for yourself. I've had the opportunity to network with people I probably would have never met had I not given my time and put myself out there. Something big is about to happen and I am sure of that! It is just a matter of time before the energy is mounted up so high that it bursts through the cracks and shines a light so bright it would make a blind man see.

***** THE BOOK OF ELI [Purple Reels gives it 5 Stars!] *****

I knew from the description of the film that it was going to be phenomenal. The fact that Denzel was the lead character made me take notice real quick. Another fact that caught my eye was the Bible. Never in all my life have I been so struck
by a film such as this one. For me it's always hard to watch a film without paying attention to the camera angles, special effects, script, and or music score. As far as "The Book of Eli" I was not concerned with any of that. I was captured from the moment I laid eyes on the cat who was struck in the beginning of the film by a bow and arrow Denzel used to kill it for food. It brought back the life in me if there's a word for that I don't know but that's how it felt.

Eli (Denzel Washington) was forced to live beneath his means just as Jesus did. He even fed a rat in the beginning of the movie I mean who does that? Who else cares for even the sparrow's needs
? Who else but God. This film was timeless and a must see for anyone I believe. I am sure that everyone will have very different opinions about the script but I believe it served it's purpose. As an actor Denzel is amazing because he becomes the character. He is Eli! He embraces everything that the character ever was and ever could be. He is sensitive to the fact that everything he does the audience will be watching and he has the power to make them believe. In other films like "Training Day" people were amazed by how he could play a character that was so "bad." People were used to him playing the good guy. In "The Book of Eli" Denzel is sort of a mix between the two. Early in the film Eli (Denzel Washington) must kill to eat and to survive. Then on his journey he sees a woman who is begging for help along the side of the road. His killing isn't for wrong but to protect. It was so much more than that though. There's so much to this film that I could write a thousand words and still have more to spare.

There wasn't too much or too little in this film. It contained just enough to keep you wanting more. The film transcends time. For his role as Eli, Denzel Washington should definitely receive an Oscar, no ques
tion. The Hughes Brothers effectively Directed a masterpiece! One of the things I noticed that stayed true throughout the film was the element of the sky. When you go to see the film make sure you pay attention to the sky because it tells you things about what is to come in the movie. The way they used the sky and natural elements to portray events was phenomenal and if you can pick up on that you are also phenomenal! Once again this is a must see! The "Book of Eli" reminded me about the call on my life. I was the last one left in the theater watching the credits, visualizing my name. I sat in tears as I realized how much passion and sincerity I felt. Many are called but few are chosen. This is Purple Reels The GoGetter "Let your Light Shine!"

Purple Reels - Paperless Promotion Blog [PRPP]

Purple Reels - Paperless Promotion Blog [PRPP]

There is a new wave of interesting events that have taken place in the past few months. The focus of Purple Reels Productions has shifted to video promotion for small businesses, musicians, vocal artists, MC’s, live bands, high school sports highlights as well as special events. In light of our current economic status the major focus of the company has progressed to show clients how important it is to utilize other sources for marketing their small business, expertise, and (or) service. Which leads me to what I’d like to refer to as PRPP [Purple Reels Paperless Promotion]. The great thing about PRPP is that it does more than save the client money however it makes the job of marketing less tedious for the small business owner, struggling artist, musician etc. The focus is on producing a generic video that is clean-cut and centered on your unique services. This video can be used online or as a hard copy to pass along to a prospective client etc. The video can be used along with other pertinent data to give your clients a quick look into what YOU do best! The great thing is that it can be utilized for more than one purpose. Instead of spending countless dollars on fliers, mailings, and postcards step into the new wave of promotion with Purple Reels.

The EPK [Electronic Press Kit] is a new form of marketing that will change the way we do business. It is simply a way to limit the paper trail, show profit, and reach your clients in a stress free manner. It’s called independent marketing. The Blazing Moon - Dreams & Visions

I want to share what has been occurring lately in my dreams. When you are a creative person you express yourself in many ways. I've always been a dreamer. In fact I dream every night. It is not very often that I remember my dreams but when I do I've recognized that they tend to come true in some way later on down the line. Now as a writer first I recognize that I can use these dreams to create a screenplay, book, film or anything to express what I experienced. It will be up to me to make the audience - or in terms of production the producer and director - understand what it is that I want to portray. So a few nights ago I had a very eloquent dream that woke me up out of my sleep. I find it very interesting now that in my dreams I am filming most of the time and I can actually recall what has taken place as if I was really there. With all of the odd events that have taken place in the past few months I've really begun to pay more attention to chakras and the balance of self. In my line of work creativity is a must and it is expected that creative people can produce a legitimate product full of excitement at the drop of a dime. In order to tap into that type of creativity one must be in tune with what lies beneath the surface of their being. Now I was raised in church but I don't want to get into "religion" because that's not even the point I'm trying to make. Everyone has a connection to the universe. Whatever form you use to connect is up to you but when you open that line of connection expect a change in your atmosphere. Most of the time when I get video projects I end up editing from home. When I'm under pressure I have to change my atmosphere so that I can focus and create the best product and in the process meet the agreed deadline. So what do we learn from this? Your atmosphere affects your output and in retrospect it affects your creativity.

This dream that I am about to share with you was very intense for me because it confirmed a lot of things that I've been seeing take place in the world. I often tell my siblings and my mother that sleeping is like going to the movies for me. I always see something new.

My dream last night: January 7, 2010

last night I dreamt I was on a beach with friends I was filming ... and the sky got dark all of a sudden... I thought nothing of it because I thought the sun was just about to set so I turned my camera towards the sun to get the sunset... then the change in the atmosphere was great... the clouds closed in on the sun as it changed into the moon... the moon began to gradually get bigger in size as the clouds closed in on it and opened once again... then a ring of fire covered the moon as the black clouds opened and closed again... there were pictures on the moon ... the people around me were laughing and I was angry "hey turn your camera back on, get this, get this!" asking them "What you can't see that? You can't see that?" I went and put my camera away and went to pray and I woke up.

So when I woke up I remember posting something on my facebook wall on January 8, 2010 about the dream which was the following;

"... what would you do if you looked up and the sky turned black & the clouds closed in on the sun as it changed into the moon... the moon changed in size and a ring of fire appeared surrounding the moon...? I kneeled down to pray and woke up... thank God "this time" it was just a dream... Purple Reels "Let your light shine!"

I was still stunned at what I saw... I had been reading about chakras and did my chart and all of that and noticed that my "third eye" is overactive. The third eye is
"the centre for clairvoyance, visions, and transcendence of time and space in thinking...." http://www.experiencefestival.com/a/Brow_Chakra/id/35382

A few days after that a friend of mine sent me a text that the image that I had described to them "ring of fire" was on ABCnews.com. So I went there and was stunned... http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=9568597

The headline on ABCnews.com read "Ring of Fire" Solar Eclipse Millennium's Longest. I was amazed that the picture looked like what I had saw in my dream but when they described it with the same words I used that kind of freaked me out a little bit. The Solar Eclipse that people were raving about in Singapore, India, Central Africa, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka to say the least I had already seen in my dreams.

I often wonder what this means but I've had other dreams come to past as well. I share this with you to bring you into a new realm of consciousness so that you will not overlook the signs. I keep a notebook next to my bed at night so that in the morning if I have a dream the night before I can make note of it. I am a writer at heart but I understand now that all of the "Writer-Directors" have probably experienced some of the same things that I am experiencing. The point is what do you do with this information?

I've started to look back at these dreams and tried to find patterns and have had new ideas for new projects and characters for films stem from these dreams. A character and or story has always been alive it just takes time for us to discover them. A great tool for creative people is to learn to sit back and observe. As a writer/filmmaker I am always observing and I also LOVE to travel... not just by plane but by bus or train as well. It gives me time to observe and sometimes talk to different kinds of people. I pick and choose wisely though and sometimes I don't even have to extend myself because my energy draws them to me. I'll pick up different things from these people and then a new character might come alive because of that divine appointment. If you're quiet enough and you observe the signs you will be a master of creating characters as well. One more lesson and I'm through. Silence is definitely golden. A few experiences as an observer of people have taught me that often times when you're silent people will tell you their whole life stories. You can try this even in your daily lives and with personal relationships. It's true! It's funny how threatening a moment of silence can be. It just shows how much technology has taken over our lives. Don't lose sight of your self in the pursuit of happiness! Control your atmosphere! I hope that my experiences have enlightened your senses. Stay tuned for my next blog documenting the creation of a new project I'm working on. A documentary about a march happening in the Seattle area. Purple Reels will be there documenting it all. Exclusive interviews with the people!
